French/Spanish guitarist Francisco Ortiz, Thursday, April 16th, 2009

parejo "Garcia's Guitar"
Born in Paris to Spanish parents from Andalucia, Francisco Ortiz has been a musical ambassador recording and performing the music from his roots in near Linares, the birthplace of legendary Andres Segovia. In fact, Ortiz studied with Segovia and performed regularly with other guitar greats such as Jorge Cardoso in more than 30 countries around the world. In his Wesleyan program he will present music inspired by Federico Garcia Lorca’s guitar poetry and flamenco origins.

Recent Concerts: Spanish guitarist Ruben Parejo , Monday, March 31st, 2008

parejo “Excellent technique, a brilliant rhythmic control, exquisite phrasing and a convincing musicality”.  (CD Review) This is one of the many raving reviews guitarist Rubén Parejo received throughout the world. A winner of top prizes in six international competitions, he will present a program of Spanish Music featuring composers from his native Valencia and other regions of Spain, at his Wesleyan performance.

Recent Concert:   Saldaña/Bravo Duo, April 22, 2007

Argentine guitarists, who won various individual awards, formed this duo to become one an internationally acclaimed guitar duo from Argentina. Their Wesleyan performance featured tangos, South American dances as well as works from the duo classical guitar repertoire.

Recent concert: WesGuitars and Wesleyan Classical Guitar Ensemble, April 29, 2007

The recent WesGuitars concert celebrated the music of Wesleyan composer Carver Blanchard, in a performance of his preludes as well as various ensemble pieces. The concert also included music from around the world as well as Tango Suite by Piazzolla and works by Bach and Clapton.
